i didn't think i'd get this emotional, but damn it, here I am.

The first listen I didn't really like the run in the background on the two first "i run run run", after listening to the song a few times though, i don't think i'd love the third "i run run run" part without it as much, haha. Also what is that sound on the beginning? It sounds like Bill's about to sing the song chipmunk style.

I really love the video (even though i'm sort of miffed about it only being the twins) but that bit with bill singing to a sparkle doesn't really fit with the rest of the video? I think it would have been better without it. I really love the light effects, and the few frames per shot gives it sort of an urgency which is a nice contrast to the stillness of the rest of the video and the song being quiet.

Well, maybe I could if I could have gotten into the song, but since I can't make out even half of what he says, it mostly registers as "sad piano, sad singing, sad piano, cigarette smoke", nothing more - nothing specific.
And my brain goes "... well the producing is good and the song isn't bad. But after 4 years I was kind of expecting something more".

Also my snarky side added "I bet Bill decided to get rid of the septum after watching the video a couple of times and getting bored with the close-up on it".

Something about this didn't work for me. Maybe I should have listened to the song the full way through when it was leaked, idk, I just feel meh. Bill's voice is really different, I think it's the key? He's singing really high for most of the song, which isn't his strong suit. And.....to be completely honest..........the lyrics make no sense to me, and at several points I can't understand him at all. It really ruins the emotion for me because I don't even know what he's singing about. I wanted to love this song, but it's a total miss for me ;c I feel so bad, I know how excited they were to share it and how much it means to them ;~~~;

All that out of the way, I am really really glad to have them back, and the video is beautiful <3

I don't get it, like....why would they intentionally publish a song that unintelligible? I could understand if it was more than piano and vocals because there would be more stuff going on to distract you and not every lyric will translate. That's almost every song ever. But how could they listen to him slurring throughout this song against the piano and be like 'it's perfect'?

...how could they work on this album for literally years, perfecting these songs, and give us a song that sounds so unpolished?

Maybe it was the point? only thing that really make sense for me. I think it feels more raw than unpolished, it's very stripped down obviously and you could also say Bill's voice is more raw, and idk, maybe they were going for something specific but sort of missed that mark?

I think the lyrics don't actually matter that much to me. I really like what I do understand, and the rest, I let the emotion of the song take over. I fell in love with them when they were only singing German and I didn't understand what they were saying then, either, but the music and the emotion in Bill's voice (whichever song he'd be singing) just worked for me, made me feel. I'm a huge fan of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and some of their lyrics are quite difficult to understand, but it's the same sort of thing. I don't have to know what they're saying to feel their hurt.

The only thing I guess that bothers me about not being able to understand the lyrics is that it makes it that much more difficult for them to get any possible airtime/following on the radio. If Aliens are scratching their heads, non-fans will too, and I fear they won't stick around for a second/third/whatever listen to figure it out.

1) tbh Ariana Grande is charting worldwide and her mumbling is even worse than Bill's.

2) pretty sure the first two videos we will get, are just buzz singles released to create buzz/interest around the band. Which is also why the first two videos will be more low key in production. The third video will be the actual first single that they will perform around tv shows and do promo with.

It's nice that people here can have a discussion that's not all positive without sounding like butthurt children. Some of the comments on YT are so bitter that I can't even begin to understand where they're coming from. And if these are fans from before Humanoid, you'd think they'd have learned that TH isn't going to conform to their expectations.

Mte on all points. Fans who have been around forever and are still surprised that they continue to evolve, or that Bill continues to express himself in the same, unique way, baffle me. Why would you want them to go back to their 'Zimmer' sound when most of that music was written for them and they had basically no part in producing? I can understand not liking their new sound but how can you not at least appreciate all the work they put into it.

Also that's why I love Apex the best, because everyone here is willing to have a conversation and the format makes it easier. At the end of the day we all just love TH <3

I would have every respect for a fan who would just say straight out, "hey, we've waited for this for so long and I'm just not feeling it anymore, so I'm gonna bail." (Hopefully after hearing the whole album a few times) But sticking around to whine about how you don't like them or where they're going, or worse yet, being MIA for the majority of 4 years then coming back to bag on the band, I have no respect for that.

I really hope all the fans enjoy the new album, but if they don't, I hope they have the grace to go find something they do like and leave us to our happy place. :)

The song is beautiful and emotional and powerful but the video was cheaply made and it shows. There are some great shots but overall the directing and editing were sloppy and conceptually it didn't pull together. Though I suppose the point was just to showcase Bill and not really to be creative. Maybe the next song/video will be better, or at least show more effort.

The sparkler seemed kind of traditional but at the same time, very badly incorporated.

Honestly...I wish I had the lyrics to look at, because when he sings that high I've never been able to understand him for shit. Even though the melody of the song's pretty, I like knowing the lyrics personally. Which is odd considering I listen to music in languages I don't understand.

Whatever filter they've put over his voice is very Björk to me, which isn't a bad thing? Just different and I'm not quite used to it yet.

That being said, I do really love just listening to this one (I went through it the first time w/o watching the video bc it didn't look very exciting lmao), the softness is really pronounced when you're not focused on the visual aspects. Intrigued by this piece, very excited to see more!!
